Teresa Pearce, MP for Erith and Thamesmead By Monika K Adler
I photographed Teresa Pearce, MP for Erith and Thamesmead, in her constituency, onthe longest pier in London. It’s a potentially risky venture when artist meets politician, but Teresa turned out to be a warm and beautiful woman, far from typical perceptions ofthe political hierarchy with its coldness and superiority.I portrayed her wisdom and openness to the world and other people.
“ At a time when older ideologies are again ascendant, it’s important to celebrate the progress that we have made, progress that has had a profound impact of the lives of women. “ – Monika K. Adler @monikakadler
209 Women is an exhibition at Portcullis House, London (Houses of Parliament). It launches 100 years to the day that the first women achieved the right to vote in the UK. In February, it will travel North to Open Eye Gallery.
